There Is A Pervert Uprising On Substack

And we need to rid them of their platforms.

Through the months I've been on Substack, I've seen several notes singing its praise. "Substack is a wholesome community." "It is a peaceful corner of the internet." "Substack is like X, but for intellectuals." "This app is my safe space." And while all these are not entirely false, I want you to know that Substack is a social media app which anybody can join at anytime.

Not everyone here is intelligent. Not everyone came here to read and write. Not everyone here has good intentions. Not everyone here is a nice person. There are thieves, liars, idiots, and quite surprisingly, perverts. Yesterday, I saw a note from Feifei where she posted a screenshot she got from a faceless account called "iNateHiggers," which I personally think is so cowardly, because the pathetic human being can't even boldy say they hate niggers. Why are they afraid to spell it?

Then, the same person left a very disturbing comment under one of Pwanoveno 🌸💗’s notes, saying she deserves to be raped. I visited the person's account, and it was all depravity. A restack about seeing girls with "pillowing tits" and feeling sad because you won't be able to rape them, a note about violence— everything was so stupid.

Today, I woke up, did my laundry, and opened my Substack. I went to my activity, and the first notification there was from a nameless pathetic fool replying to a note that doesn't concern his ancestors and saying words so vile I don't want to repeat, but it was about sexual abuse and assault. I felt so disgusted because the thought alone— the mental image of the stupid things they described— made me sick to my stomach.

Just some minutes ago, I got a message from a friend, who also was a victim of the same person's stupidity. These are the type of horrifying comments they leave on people's notes.

I'm not gonna lie, she ate with her clap backs, which is quite impressive, because I couldn't even think of anything to reply when I saw his comment on my notes.

This is not a trivial issue at all. It is cyber harrassment, intended to frighten innocent users. This can take a toll on someone's mental health and have severe consequences. I want every sensible person reading this to treat this as urgent, to find those accounts (and any other related one you see), report, block them, and spread awareness.

We are calling Substack’s attention to this, but we are also taking action because we're not waiting for them to step in. You are in charge of your own peace. If you see an account posting things you don't like, block it. There are a lot of crazy people hiding here, and again, I say, Substack is not a safe space. I am grateful for Feifei who is relentless in her report of vile accounts. But she can't be the one to do everything. We need to take a stand and rid these perverts of their platforms. They are bullies hiding behind a screen, and they all have to go.

Don't wait until you get your own hate comment— start fighting now. Substack is for the readers and writers, and we would make it so. If you've been a victim of any of these fools, don't internalise their words or let it affect you. I hope nobody gets raped and killed, and I hope the bad guys get comically carted away like they do in cartoons, and we can say, “So long, suckers!”
